How California’s Black Doulas are Fighting the Maternal Mortality Crisis

To mark World Doula Week, I’m bringing back a great conversation I had on NPR a few years ago. While we have been hard at work and there has been some progress, we’ve still got a ways to go. I had the chance to talk with Monica McLemore and Sumayyah Monét Franklin, about Black doulas, our work, the costs of racism in American healthcare, and about why some are wary of the state of California’s efforts to regulate the profession. Listen to the conversation here. Thanks to Ariana Proehl of KQED for hosting this very important conversation.
